Welcome to my round-up of the best lubes of 2022. Why do lubes deserve their very own round-up? For two important reasons: they reduce irritation and amp up sensation by creating a smooth, low-friction glide. In fact, lube is so crucial it may be the most underrated tool in your pleasure arsenal. 

For this review, I highlight 5 stand-out lubricants that are tops in their categories. There’s something here for everybody, no matter what kind of play you enjoy.

Most Realistic: Naked Silk

Naked Silk is one of our most popular lubes and the reason is simple: the texture is remarkably similar to natural lubrication. 

Naked Silk is a water-silicone hybrid that blends the lightness of a water-based formula with the long-lasting silkiness of a silicone lube. The result is a lubricant with a super-realistic consistency that works beautifully for everything from solo play with hard toys to anal penetration.

Because anal lube is so important, I tested a number of different formulas before settling on my current favorite: German-made Pjur Analyse Me. I appreciate that this lube was designed specifically for anal sex, an act that often creates more friction and potential irritation. It’s also the first silicone-based lube with added herbal benefits. 

Analyse Me combines the super-slick texture of premium silicone with natural jojoba seed oil, which can help relax muscles and make anal penetration more comfortable. This lube doesn’t rely on numbing agents like lidocaine, which can reduce sensations that signal your body to slow down or stop. I also like that Analyse Me is made from medical-grade silicone, and is one of the few silicone-based lubes that’s safe to use with latex condoms.

Analyse Me may be a little pricier than some other anal lubes, but the quality of the ingredients makes it well worth it in my opinion.

Best for Sensitive Skin: Good Clean Love BioNude

On the hunt for a lube that won’t irritate your skin or cause yeast infections? Check out Bio Nude from Good Clean Love. 

This lube is water-based, which already tends to be less disruptive to your vaginal pH levels. But Good Clean Love also features patented Bio Match Technology, which was designed specifically to preserve your vaginal ecosystem.

Best Oil-Based Lube: Coconu Organic Oil-Based Lubricant

If you’ve never tried an oil-based lube, I’ve got a treat for you. 

Coconu lube is made of simple, all-natural ingredients, and is about as silky-smooth as a non-silicone lube gets. I love it for anything that requires a really long-lasting glide, especially anal play.

This lube is also moisturizing to the skin, and smells and tastes really good. That’s not because it’s scented or flavored, but because it’s made mostly from organic sunflower seed and coconut oils. If you’re looking for a totally natural, non-toxic lube, I highly recommend giving this one a try.  

If you’re NOT new to oil-based lube, then you already know that it doesn’t dry out and requires less reapplication than water-based lubes. Coconu Oil-Based Lube is also great for foreplay and sensual massage and just about anything you use an oil for.  

Oil-based lubes tend to be more expensive because they’re made from pricier ingredients, but given Coconu’s quality and versatility, I still consider it a bargain.

Keep in mind that oil-based lubes generally aren’t condom-safe and may damage silicone sex toys. Try a water-based or silicone-safe hybrid lube with these instead.    

Longest-Lasting: Sliquid Silver Studio Collection

Closing out the round-up is a luxuriously packaged lube from Sliquid called Silver. 

If you’re looking for a truly slippery silicone lube, you can’t go wrong with this one. It’s made from an ultra-concentrated blend of pharmaceutical grade ingredients that can stand up to just about any kind of play. A few drops literally can last hours, making this a perfect choice if you’re not a fan of stopping to reapply lube. I also like the glass pump bottle, which reduces mess and is really convenient. 

Of all the lubes in this lineup, Sliquid Silver lasts the longest. It’s also totally waterproof, which makes it a bit challenging to clean up and the ideal choice for water play, so a bit of a trade-off there.

Silver does cost more than some other lubes, but again, it requires very little reapplication and that makes it a steal in my view. And finally, though it’s not safe for silicone toys, you can use it with anything made from latex, plastic, and rubber.  

Round-Up Recap

All the lubes I’ve reviewed here made the list because they’re long-lasting, silky-smooth, and body-safe. But some of them do stand out in certain areas more than others.

To recap, Naked Silk lube has the most realistic feel, Pjur Analyse Me is ideal for anal play, Good Clean Love is best for sensitive folks who prefer natural ingredients, Coconu is a great oil-based option and the only one that doubles as a massage oil, and Sliquid Silver will last you all night long (and then some!). 

Frankly, I keep each of these lubes in my regular rotation because they’re all very high quality and exceptional for different types of play.
